Delicious dining discoveries in the Adriatic villages like Dubrovnik

Appetizing Adriatic

Dubrovnik – Lady PiPi – Antuninska, 23

It’s a strenuous climb up the steps from the Stradun to reach Lady PiPi, the split level terrace restaurant that is spread beneath a shady pergola. We enjoyed fish and salad, as well as the views out to the ocean and over the red roof buildings. Their cappuccinos for an afternoon coffee break are just as tasty.

Dubrovnik – Buza Bar – Crijeviceva Ulica, 9

We had such fun searching for this great view bar which is hidden under the ancient city walls of Old Town. Finding the stone carved entrance, one literally bends over to crawl through the hole in the wall, and when you look up, you are amazed at the Adriatic vista over the deep blue sea. This is a great sunset view over a gin and tonic.

Lake Bled – Osterija Peglez’n – Cesta Svobode, 19

Just a few steps from our lodging, Penzion Berc, this restaurant, situated right on the lake, serves traditional Slovenian dishes. Our delectable meal was pesto risotto and sea bass and was scrumptious.

Rovinj – Stella di Mare – Ulica Sv. Kriza, 4

Watching the sunset at this outdoor restaurant was a delight while we devoured a delicious lasagna.

Split – Villa Spiza – Ulica Petra Kruzica, 3

This tiny eatery tucked away in an alley in Split’s historical downtown, Villa Spiza can accommodate only 10 people in this taverna with its wooden beams and exposed stone walls. A daily menu, handwritten on a page ripped out of a notepad and clipped to a clipboard uses ingredients which the owners collect that morning from the sea and hills outside of town. And it will only be 8 – 10 items on their menu. This is totally a “locals location” but it is worth the wait to snag a table. Just come early !
