Marvelous Miami

Living in South Florida in Boca Raton in the mid 1980’s, we scavenged the entire area to discover wonderful secrets. Here are two of our favorite areas of Miami:

LITTLE HAVANA – the most colorful blocks are on 8th Street between 13th and 16th. Our entire family participated in the Calle Ocho World’s Longest Conga line which was led by Gloria Estefan!

Little Havana

Versailles Restaurant and Bakery – Iconic Cuban restaurant serving traditional fare in a roomy, vintage dining room with chandeliers. Exactly like Porto’s in Los Angeles – bustling, noisy, and full of the most aromatic scents – we stood in line for a cheese pastry and a yummy cortado coffee.

Guayavera’s – Rick bought a Cubavera shirt here from the owner

Rick loves his new Cubavera shirt which is perfect for drumming!

Sala’o Restaurant – Offers authentic Cuban cuisine with daily live music in a classic vintage interior

Ball & Chain – Live music drew us in and Rick immediately picked up an instrument to play along with the band. This opened in the 1930’s and was just a classic.

WYNWOOD ART DISTRICT – The Wynwood Arts District is one of Miami’s most exciting zip codes and is a globally recognized neighborhood with creativity flowing year-round. Known for its many colorful murals, Wynwood is one of the city’s most happening districts. Wynwood Walls is an outdoor museum showcasing large-scale works by some of the world’s best-known street artists. The surrounding streets have converted warehouses housing craft breweries and funky art galleries. A hip young crowd frequents the neighborhood’s chic clothing boutiques, stylish bistros and late-night bars.

There are a dozen blocks of painted walls, cafes, restaurants, and art galleries

Doya – DOYA is a modern Aegean Meze Bar restaurant, based in Wynwood, Miami and they celebrate the Meze culture from Greece and Turkey. Taking inspiration from the greater Mediterranean region and the Middle East, their food is cooked over a live fire. We ate a salad of feta, hazelnut and pomegranates, Roasted Eggplant, and Cretan Feta made with pistachios and walnuts. We enjoyed Turkish bread and Lavash bread. YUM!!!!
