Woman weaving hats by threading the straw with her toes

Vietnam Bike Tour in Nha Trang

Hopping off our Princess Cruise in Nha Trang, Vietnam, Rick and I and Ken and Rosealie located Dang from Pham Tours. Whisking us away to the narrow alley of his bike shop, we spotted a man shoveling bread from his oven into a basket. Overwhelmed by the aroma, we walked in and bought a few loaves before we sported our helmets and drove off on our bikes, following our fearless leader.

We bought two loaves of this freshly baked bread from this friendly bread maker

Dang drove us to a sweet orphanage inside an open air temple and we watched as the young elementary aged students sang. Rickety bridges added drama as we drove through the rice paddies, stopping to smell the sweet lemongrass growing on the side of the rutted, dirt road. Our jaws dropped when a man on a scooter wizzed past us with a 60 inch Samsung TV strapped to the back of his bike. We watched in appreciation as women created mats by hand and stood in awe as a 91 year old woman crafted Vietnamese hats by shredding stalks with her feet. Feasting on shrimp and vegetables by the river, we devoured rambuten and dragonfruit for dessert.

It was an extraordinary day!
