Twice a year, tens of thousands of shoppers descend into the town of Round Top, Texas, population 90, to swarm the 4,000 vendors plying for the ultimate deal – selling you their wares. From Carmine to Warrenton, the swells of white tents and permanent structures line the road of Hwy 237, extending for acres through the green farmland pastures.

From European antique furniture to glassware to Turkish rugs, the selection is immense and the experience is second to none. Shopping for stemware or antique kitchen tools and bakeware, metal watering cans to handmade wooden cutting boards, the amount of goods is totally mindboggling.

 

 

Market Hill, one of the largest permanent structures, features the world’s best collection of antiques, one-of-a-kind curiosities, hand made furniture, home decor and decorative arts. It encompasses the Paul Michael Company.

McLaren’s Antiques displays the big red double decker bus in front of the building. From reclaimed pine tables to Italian sofas, the collection of items is well displayed.

The Compound, six barns of European and American antiques, estate jewelry, and antique weapons, is also home to French antiques. Gourmet lunches can be eaten on the benches by the firepit in the center of the barns.

Blue Hills is a big, blue barn with 15,000 square feet of antique furniture.

Caspar & Gerard has a tent full of wood cutting boards and metal watering cans and containers.

As you drive down into Warrenton, the temporary white tents loom on each side of the highway, covering the green pastures with an eclectic array of depression glass, metal tools, and everything you could possibly find in a flea market style atmosphere.

You can eat deep fried oreos and barbecue, or stop for a nice sit down lunch at Royer’s Cafe at Henkel Square in the center of Round Top.
