We hiked the Mist Trail up to Vernal Falls
Secrets of Yosemite National Park
Rick and I tackled Yosemite from Los Angeles after visiting our daughters, so we drove up through Fresno, taking the two lane State Highway 41 into Oakhurst and Fish Camp. This direction, although slow, had us climbing into the forested canopy to Wawona Rd and Wawona Tunnel, opening into the Artist Point Trail vista. Half Dome loomed over the valley and we were smitten with this gorgeous viewpoint.
Bridalveil Falls was roaring on this June day. Only a few feet in from the road, the falls are a delight.
We hiked the Mist Trail alongside the Merced River to reach Vernal Falls. After crossing the footbridge, the trail climbs steadily and a bit steeply up to the Falls. You can take the 600 steps up to the top of the falls and revel in the cool mist. Hence, the name of the trail, Mist Trail. This hike was 3.3 miles round trip.
Driving out of the Park on State Highway 120, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at McCaffrey House B&B in Twain Harte. Situated at the base of the Stanislaus National Forest, the redwood deck overlooked the pine trees and the pungent aroma of the forest was thick. Stephanie and Mike served a gourmet breakfast and we slept like babies in their soft sheets. Rick and I arrived home and ordered the same sheets. comphy.com
